Auschwitz – Nazi Concentration Campczestochowa

Today our pilgrims had the very moving experience of visiting Auschwitz

At least a million people, the vast majority of whom were Jews, died at Auschwitz

Saint Maximilian Kolbe

In 1941 Max Kolbe, a Conventual Franciscan friar, was Killed in Auschwitz concentration camp after offering to take the place of a condemned man.

He was canonised in 1981 by Pope John Paul II, who described him as “The Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century”
