Covid-19 Crisis – 28 October 2020
Update from Fr Martin
Arrangements for Christmas Masses
Essex County Council have asked us to remind our congregations that tier 2 restrictions mean that we are now not allowed to meet socially with people we do not live with indoors – this includes private homes, as well as pubs and restaurants. All of us have a responsibility to abide by these restrictions in order to safeguard the health and well being of the community at large and to ease pressures on the NHS.
However, tier 2 restrictions concerning gatherings do not apply to places of worship. We can continue to gather for weekday and Sunday Mass. But more than ever we must ensure that we are following all the other guidelines.
Therefore, please make sure that you hand sanitise when you enter and leave the Cathedral.
Please make sure that your face mask or shield covers both your mouth and nose.
Continue to cooperate with the ushers and maintain social distancing at all times.
Do follow the track and trace information in the newsletter.
And, finally, please leave the Cathedral in a prompt and orderly manner – do not linger or congregate in the Cathedral or outside.
We may be feeling rather weary living with these measures but all of us have a moral and Christian duty to protect the elderly and most vulnerable by helping to lower the infection rates for the good of the whole of society. By acting responsibly, we also have a strong case for our churches remaining open should there be further restrictions in the future.
Thank you again for your understanding, continued cooperation and for trusting in God’s providence.
Social distancing in action at the 11:30 am Mass
